What is Siyrren’s Song Dance Company?

SSDC is first and foremost a dance troupe dedicated to spreading the joy of dance and creating a comfortable space for supporting the empowerment this dance style it can give an individual.

Kate first started started belly dancing at 15 years old. Seeing dancers around the fire circles and the casual joy and enjoyment of this environment spoke to her. She then began to study Raqs sharqi. The next 3 years would include more fire circle performances and study.

Upon heading to Washington State University, Kate found the Belly Dance club. One of the leaders was very interested in ATS® and tribal fusion (now FCBD® style and Datura) and was teaching moves she learned to the other members. Immediately enamored, Kate began trying to learn everything she could about the style. Having mostly performed in casual setting rather than stage performances, the style spoke to the need of being off the cuff, but still something to be done as a group. She with some of the other members formed the dance troupe Crimson Grayce.

After leaving university and returning to the PNW, Kate found a void in her life where the dance troupe was. She then started Siyrren’s Song Dance Company and would perform and teach on the side.

Now, 9 years later, she has left the corporate world and stuck out on her own, to make her passion for dance her full time job. After becoming a certified instructor in FCBD® Style, she is dedicated to spreading the joy and community of dance to as many as she can.

Heed the call, release the siren.

Where Siyrren’s Song got its name.

The name came from Kate’s stage name, Siyrren. Back in university, as a member of Crimson Grayce, Kate took on the name Siyrren for performances. She loves the idea of a beautiful creature, enticing, that can draw people in and charm them, but also a creature to be respected and not taken lightly. The duality of beauty and danger spoke to Kate, as it does to many in the belly dance sphere. As a nod to the original dance troupe, she added a y to the normal spelling of Siren.

Kate used her name and the concept of the Song of the Siren, that calls out, in hopes to draw in like minded people. Thus Siyrren’s Song was named.

The slogan used by SSDC, Heed the Call, release the Siren, is a two fold reference: For those looking to hire SSDC, they see the beauty of the dance and release the sirens of SSDC . For those looking to learn, you hear the call to dance, and release the siren from within yourself.
